Welcome back… Tamiya’s P-38F/G – T minus 48 — My Forgotten Hobby VI

Day 256 Monday November 7, 2022 I am moving along with relative ease with this build. Well almost. I had forgotten that Tamiya extra thin cement was to be used cautiously because it’s very fluid. I used fine grit sanding sticks to solve that sticky problem. The fit is so good with this step that […]

Day 255

Sunday November 6, 2022
This is the last post on My Forgotten Hobby V.
Seriously?

I am very cautious now when I am reading the instructions. If I skip a step, I am sure I will be messing something up. In fact I did just that.

Step 6 posed no problem and the fit was excellent.

But in Step 7, I drilled all the holes! There should have been a cautionary note.

The weight was added and I glued only the front part of C28 with G23.

You will see what I mean later on My Forgotten Hobby VI.

Next time, T minus 48 on My Forgotten Hobby VI my upload limit having been reached.

Day 254

Saturday November 5, 2022
This is Post 265 on My Forgotten Hobby V.
It wasn’t supposed to be.

The P-38F cockpit has been painted and then was glued yesterday. I don’t bother anymore to get the right shade of zinc chromate. The instrument panel decal was added and the cockpit glued after I figured out how to glue it.

The fit is great but you already know that if you have read the reviews I posted.

It should be a no brainer but sometimes my brain plays tricks on me. I will have to remember this The next big decision is to have the ladder in the up or down position.

I have already decided. Next time, T minus 49.  My upload limit has been almost reached.

Day 253

Friday November 4, 2022

I have started assembling the cockpit parts on Wednesday. First I made copies of the instructions sheet so I could write on them.

There is so much information it’s easy to lose track of what to do.

I hope I will remember doing that with every build.
I have chosen to build the F version so part G24 was selected.

Part G6 was glued at the wrong place. The arrow wasn’t that clear.

I was lucky to find that out in time.

I added primer Thursday so I could start painting the parts and then add the decal later to the instrument panel.

Next time, T minus 50.

Day 252

Thursday November 3, 2022

Tamiya’s P-38 is quite an intimidating model kit to build with all the rave reviews it has gotten since 2019.

There’s no turning back on what I had promised my son for Christmas almost three years ago.

As a footnote…

I always read comments on My Forgotten Hobby and I take good notes of suggestions made. A friend suggested the Buffalo should be on my to-do list.

So the Tamiya Brewster B339 Buffalo will be the next build after the P-38F/G.

Then to this one will follow the Buffalo in 2023 on My Forgotten Hobby VI.
